Whats the difference and is it worth paying a premium (I got a standard Type 2 for 50p) for a GT box (approx £70)?

The main difference is in the 1st & 2nd gear ratios.  The details are here:

http://www.domsat.co.uk/pages/gearboxes.htm

The 4-speed in the top picture has the standard tail case and the hybrid one in the lower picture has the GT tail case - much beefier.

Most people choose the GT box if they can find one because the standard box's 1st & 2nd are a little too low for our use.  That said, we rarely use 2nd and 1st is only for starts so it's not that big deal.

Well, I now have a standard type 2 gearbox. 50p and turns freely with no slop. I think I may just use this gearbox and see how I go rather than spend the extra for a GT box.

Just added a full recon'd 4.1 diff to the collection. Have a standard 1300 xflow, just trying to decide to get a rebuild (include bore out etc..) on that or just spend the cash and get a randall and keep this xflow for spares. Anyone know the current cost of a Randall (or other similar spec. race xflow)?
